Success Story
Steel & Metal
Energy efficiency in power supply of steel production sites
MISSION
The costs of energy consumption is by far the highest expense for the operational management of production infrastructure that consists of electric melt furnaces, continuous casting and rolling mills. Peaks of energy demand are added cost drivers, in particular when all sites are in peak mode at the same time. Optimizing the cost for energy use was the mission of the project team.
SOLUTION AND WORK PROCESS
Our goal was to elaborate a concept for energy balance management for pilot site. In detail:
Visualization of time periodic energy consumption and price variance of energy volume supply mix for same cycles
Building up an IT-based energy balance management to visualize variation over time of energy demand and supply
Working out rules for energy demand optimization in the orchestration of several sites
Elaboration of a concept for price optimization, based on balancing periodical energy supply mix
System based real time energy balance management in supply and demand, by synchronising multi-facility and supply mix
Implementation of a real time monitoring platform for continuous balancing and optimizing of energy costs for multi-facility management
RESULTS
Demand balancing through planning and forecasting of the production programs of involved sites
Realtime monitoring of planned and real time demand of energy
Digital twin based simulation of the peak demand for site and sourcing management
Power trading and rules for cost optimization
